How to Choose an Engagement Ring

Color Grade and Clarity — Getting the Quality Balance Right

For an engagement ring worn every day, the balance between color grade and clarity matters more than either factor in isolation. Our collection runs from D color (the highest GIA grade) through J, with around 28 diamonds in the Colorless range (D-F) and around 10 in Near Colorless (G-J). D through F color diamonds offer the brightest, most transparent appearance, the stone has no perceptible warmth or tint, which is particularly striking in a solitaire setting. G and H color diamonds look virtually identical to D-F in most lighting conditions when set in white gold or platinum, which means the same budget can often be applied to a larger carat weight or higher clarity grade. On clarity, VS1 and VS2 are the most common grades in this collection. Both are eye-clean and offer excellent quality for an engagement ring. SI1 and SI2 grades are also represented, and while they may have inclusions visible under magnification, they are usually eye-clean and offer strong value. VVS and IF stones are available for buyers prioritizing maximum clarity.

Choosing a Shape — for the Hand That Will Wear It

Diamond shape is one of the most personal decisions in choosing an engagement ring, the right choice depends on the wearer's aesthetic preferences and how the stone looks on their hand. Round cut is the most universally flattering and the most brilliant of all shapes, making it the most chosen engagement ring diamond worldwide and the most represented shape in our collection (around 12 stones). Cushion cut has a soft, rounded outline with a slightly warmer brilliance that appeals to buyers who find round cut too classic or sharp, it is the second most popular shape here and suits both traditional and contemporary ring settings. Pear cut (also around 11 stones) creates an elongated silhouette that makes fingers appear longer and more slender — it is distinctive without being unconventional, and works beautifully as a proposal ring. Emerald cut produces a different kind of sparkle, the long step-cut facets create a hall-of-mirrors effect that emphasizes clarity and depth rather than surface brilliance, and suits buyers drawn to a more understated, architectural aesthetic. Oval cut combines the brilliance of round with the elongated silhouette of pear. Radiant cut offers strong brilliance in a more square or rectangular outline, appealing to buyers who want round-cut sparkle in a different shape.

Fancy Color Diamond Engagement Rings

For buyers looking for something beyond the traditional, we carry engagement rings featuring natural yellow, pink, and green fancy color diamonds — all GIA or CGL certified. A color diamond engagement ring carries a different kind of significance: the stone is rarer, more individual, and in some cases holds a stronger long-term investment case than its colorless equivalent. Pink diamond engagement rings have become particularly sought after since the 2020 closure of the Argyle mine in Western Australia, which produced the vast majority of the world's natural pink diamonds. Yellow diamond engagement rings offer vivid, warm color at a more accessible price point than pink — Fancy Vivid Yellow Canary diamonds are the most striking option in this category. Green diamond engagement rings are exceptionally rare and suit buyers looking for a truly one-of-a-kind proposal ring. Browse our full color diamond ring collection for more options.

Metal, Carat Weight, and Budget

18K white gold dominates our engagement ring collection (around 40 out of 50 pieces), reflecting its status as the most popular metal for engagement rings in Japan, it frames colorless diamonds cleanly and is slightly more affordable than platinum. Platinum (PT900) is available across a smaller selection and offers superior hardness and durability for a ring worn daily. 18K yellow gold and rose gold are available for color diamond rings where the warm metal enhances the stone's hue. Our collection ranges from ¥260,000 (a round 0.425ct E VVS2) to ¥1,500,000 (an emerald 1.756ct F SI2), with the most popular range — 0.5ct to 1ct in VS or SI clarity — sitting between ¥350,000 and ¥800,000. Free ring sizing is available. If you need guidance finding the right combination within your budget, contact us or visit our office in Okachimachi.
